1. Themis Awarded Innovate UK Grant
Themis is expanding its AI capabilities to combat financial crime, backed by a prestigious Innovate UK grant. This project will enhance how companies detect and report criminal links, reinforcing Themis’ role in the fight against financial crime and showcasing its commitment to innovation and excellence in compliance.
PRESS RELEASE
London, UK, August 30, 2024 – Themis is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of the few recipients of a highly competitive grant from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). This significant achievement recognises Themis' commitment to driving innovation and excellence in Financial Crime and reinforces its leadership in the field.
The UKRI grant was awarded following a rigorous selection process that evaluated numerous applications from leading businesses and academic institutions across the UK. Themis’ project stood out due to its potential for impact, innovation, and alignment with the strategic goals of UKRI.
The funding will be used to advance Artificial Intelligence, which promises to deliver ground-breaking advancements in Financial Crime management – democratising due diligence for businesses in all industry sectors. This is a revolutionary project that will leverage AI capabilities in combination with real crime data to seek hidden data patterns and vastly increase an organisation's ability to detect/report suspicious activity.
It will aim to look beyond the standard watchlists to reveal a subject’s wider and potentially hidden relationships to discover their degrees of separation from, and exposure to, financial crime, identifying how parties may be using different routes to legitimise the proceeds of their illicit activities.
Excellence in Innovation
The UKRI selection process is designed to ensure that only the most promising projects receive funding. Applications were reviewed by independent experts from both academia and business, who evaluated them against stringent criteria for excellence, impact, and value for money. A final assessment by Innovate UK’s funders panel confirmed Themis' project as a high-quality innovation worthy of support.
This grant is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team,” said Dickon Johnstone, CEO of Themis. “Being recognised by UKRI as one of the leaders in innovation in Financial Crime is a tremendous honour. This funding will enable us to accelerate our research and bring our innovative solutions to market, making a real difference in protecting businesses and people from engaging with funds from financial crime.
Matt Deacon, CTO of Themis comments, "We’re excited to push the boundaries of AI in financial crime management. This UKRI grant allows us to accelerate AI-driven due diligence and develop on our cutting-edge solutions that empower businesses to safeguard against financial crime."
